This past week I listened to a few episodes of the the podcast Money Talks from Economist Radio and one episode in particular resonated with me, Money Talks: The Alexander technique. I know economics can be an overwhelming and challenging topic for many of us. But, I think if we are interested in understanding and managing our finances better, it would be worth understanding the systems which impact our finances and which allow or deny us access to certain resources and/or commodities (goods and services). I say this because, if we understand this better, many of us would be able to be better advocates for ourselves and others in not only our own economy, but in the global economy. And as we develop the knowledge and skills to be better advocates, I think this will ultimately bring more equity and accountability into the economies we participate in.
I’m saddened Sadie Alexander’s life and work has only recently been uncovered and in the process of being published. But, I am grateful Professor Nina Banks has brought Alexender’s life, work, and impact into public conversation. Alexander’s research and work at the intersection of economics, race, and gender are enlightening and empowering. Nina Banks’ collection of Alexander’s writing and essays will be published in Summer 2021 and I think it will be worth the read, if you’re interested in learning more about Sadie Alexander and or the intersection of economics, race, and gender.
