5 Finance Websites to Get You Started on Your Personal Finance Journey

Where do you go for personal finance information? When you are at the beginning of your journey, the amount of information you can find online can be overwhelming. I totally get it, so I’m sharing with you some websites I found helpful at the beginning of my own journey.

NerdWallet

This website was my go-to when I started my personal finance journey. I appreciated the simplicity and thoroughness of the posts on the website. I really leaned on this website for comparisons and reviews of financial products and services, so if you’re needing something like that in your journey, I would definitely recommend this website. They also have an assortment of calculators you can use to help you calculate everything from how much home you can afford to how much you’ll need for retirement.

Investopedia

If you’re needing basic or comprehensive information on finance and investment terms or anything related to finances, like economics, this is the place to go. As its name suggests, the site is an encyclopedia of all things finances and investments, so there is a lot of great and detailed information on the website about those topics. This is also a great space to find money, business, and market news as well, if you’re interested in keeping up with those things (which I highly encourage).

HerMoney/DailyWorth

HerMoney makes it on one of my lists again! And because DailyWorth is now under HerMoney Media, I’ve included the site alongside HerMoney. Both sites focus on helping women become more confident and comfortable navigating their finances at all stages of their lives. As someone who identifies as a woman, this site was a great resource for me that eventually led me to other resources and people who focus on empowering women in their financial lives. And I would suggest this site for ANYONE, not just women. If you are not a woman, I think the site will offer a perspective that can help you better understand the challenges impacting women’s finances; their financial journeys; and how you can offer support and be an advocate for them.

MarketWatch

If you need or are interested in stock market and financial news, this is a solid site. It’s not the most aesthetically pleasing website, but the information is abundant. As I became more interested in investing, this was a site I visited often. It provides an in depth analysis of what is occurring in global markets and provides some insightful information that I think would be helpful at any point in your financial journey.

CNET-Personal Finance

CNET focuses on “tech, culture, and science”, but there is a Personal Finance section that provides general personal finance news that is helpful. Although there is the Personal Finance section, I leaned more on CNET for product and service reviews (cars, computers, etc.) , because that was a big piece of my financial journey (determining what to spend my money on). When you’re trying to be more intentional about how you save and spend money, one of the first things you’ll examine are the products you’re spending money on, or will eventually have to spend money on. So, this site was helpful for me, for determining which products or services would be worth purchasing.

Hope you all found this information helpful! What websites did or do you currently use to help you along your financial journey? Share in the comments below.
